Know Your Customers

May 6, 2011

Have you Googled your small business? if the answer is no, try it. What did you get, something? nothing? a lot?.

If you got nothing, you have a problem. Your customers have nothing to say about your products or services, they could get the same or similar product or service elsewhere. There is no loyalty or electronic word of mouth.

Find out what your customers are doing online and where do they spend their time.  If they are not talking about you what are they talking about there. Are they talking about your competition? your industry?. The conversation could be about anything. It could be inquiries for your product/service, praise for a competitor, complaint or a recommendation to others.  Once you know the conversation it is easier to determine the strategy by which you can fit yourself into that conversation.  If you do not have a clue about what people are talking about, how will you engage them in a conversation, how will you know your customer?
