Groupon + Sweepstakes = Squarz. A new app under feild trial in Chicago lets you get Groupon style deals and once you buy the deal you get a square on the gameboard and a chance to win a pize. The sweepstakes will mostly be sports related.
There are two methods by which the winner will be determined. In the traditional method, the winner is determined randomly using the last digits from the score of a specified sporting event.
The result is not based on which team wins. Rather the last number from the score of each team is matched up with a square. First, every one of the Squares for a Squarz Deal has a left side and a top. Every one of the traditional Squares is divided into 10 Rows and 10 Columns creating 100 squares inside the main square. After a member buys the Squarz Deal, they are given the opportunity to select one of the 100 squares. If enough members purchase the Squarz Deal then the Reserve is met and the game is on, and the company’s computers will randomly assign the numbers 0-9 along side the 10 boxes in the Column on the left side of the Square and the numbers 0-9 above the 10 boxes on the top Row of the Square.
Next, when the score comes in and the game is over, the winning square is selected by taking the last digit of the score for each team and matching up with the square. For example: when the score is Chicago 28 v. Detroit 12, “8” is the last digit of “28” and “2” is the last digit of “12” so the winning square is the one which is in the Row 8 and also in Column 2. In the event the winning square is not assigned to a person through the selection process, the Prize will not be awarded.
In the Random Square method there is no event involved. Like the Traditional Square method, the Random Square starts with a square. Every one of our Random Squares may be divided into a number of Rows and a number of Columns creating 100 or more squares inside the main square. After a member purchases the Squarz Deal, they are given the opportunity to select one of the squares. If enough members purchase the Squarz Deal then the Reserve is met and the game is on!
Each game on a Random Square will start either when all of the squares are occupied or at a predetermined time after the Reserve is met. Their computers will randomly assign a number to each of the squares using a random number generator. Once each square has been assigned a number, the computer will randomly select a number between 1 and the number of squares on the page by random number generator, and the winning square will the one which had randomly been assigned that number.
According to the company’s website, no purchase is necessary and you can enter the sweepstakes even without making a purchase. This is what they say “Online Entry Without Purchase: Persons entering a particular Promotion without making a purchase shall in all instances have the same chance of winning the same Prize or Prizes associated with a particular Square. Whenever a Square for a Squarz Deal is opened and made available to purchasers, the same number of entries shall be made available for selection and registration by persons wishing to participate without making a purchase. (Example: A Square is opened for a Square Deal on the Website comprised of 100 squares. Squarz will open 100 entries for free entry, each of which may be claimed by persons seeking to enter for free on a first come, first served and one-at-a-time basis. From the 100 free entries, a winning entry will be selected by a Random Method).”
