Foursquare location based marketingIf you own a food truck or have another business that is mobile and are wondering if you could add your business to foursquare places, the answer is yes. It is possible to claim a “Moving Target” as a venue as well as offer Specials there for foursquare users. However, foursquare has certain caveats with Moving Targets:

(1) They can be a little tricky for users to locate within the foursquare app, as the “Places” tab that they see at any given time populates with venues that are within a close proximity to their current location. it is therefore recommended that when you create the venue, choose the address where the truck will be most often or where it will start, in order to maximize the amount of times the truck will show up in the “Places” tab organically.

(2) Make sure to include a call-to-action to find the venue in foursquare throughout the rest of your communications and maybe you want to put a flyer up at your venue so that when people are there live they are instructed to check in. You can also request the free Window clings from foursquare

(3) Foursquare’s cheating algorithm allows people to check in to any venue that the user says they are, but if they are outside of a given radius from where that venue is geo-tagged, that check-in won’t count towards unlocking a special or becoming mayor. Therefore focus on specials that would require users to be present to unlock. For example, giving them something on their first check-in (or every check-in) prevents any cheating issues. The special could also instruct them to register with you in-person at the truck for entry into some type of larger sweepstakes or contest. To move ahead with creating and claiming the venue, you can add the venue here: www.foursquare.com/add_venue
